Robin Chudy is one the Bay Area’s first call for harp and plays Saturdays for the High Tea in the beautiful Garden Court at the Palace Hotel. Previously based in Boston, she played the harp daily for fourteen years at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. There she developed a style suited to relaxed listening in the Tea Lounge and Cafe, and acquired a broad repertoire of classical and lighter compositions, many her own arrangements.
Born in the Chicago area, Robin began her harp studies at the age of seven. Her musical education continued through undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, where she studied with Mr. Edward Druzinsky, principal harpist of the Chicago Symphony. She then majored in music at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with Major in Music. She went on to attend the prestigious Eastman School of Music, studying with the celebrated Miss Eileen Malone and graduating with a Master of Music degree with Major in Harp Performance.
Ms. Chudy has concertized widely both as a soloist and an ensemble member. She has presented solo recitals across the county through the Young Artist Program of the American Harp Society, and was featured as concerto soloist with the New Hampshire Music Festival and the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. As an orchestra member, she has performed with the Monterey Symphony, and San Jose Symphony, the Elgin Syphony, and various choral and musical theater groups.
Robin Chudy’s recordings to date include “Tea-Time Classics,” a harp and flute CD released by Soundjewel Productions USA; contemporary works for CRI Records with Eastman Musica Nova; studio work for Fishtraks Studio in Portsmouth, N.H. and Jerris Productions in Rochester, N.Y; and recordings with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra as soloist and ensemble member.
As a freelance harpist of the highest quality, Ms. Chudy has been called to play at functions for important personages, including Henry Kissinger, Mikhail Gorbachev, Sen. Edward Kennedy, and composer / conductor John Williams. Some of her venues are the Fairmont Hotel, the Mark Hopkins, the Palace Hotel, the Ritz-Carlton Hotels in San Francisco and Half Moon Bay, the Four Seasons, Marriott, and Omni hotels, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Kennedy Library, and the Elizabeth Stewart Gardner Museum.
As much an ensemble player as a soloist, Robin Chudy performs also as a member of her flute and harp duo, sometimes adding a cellist to form her trio chamber group.
